FAQs

How can you help me?

Our goal is to help you achieve peace of mind over your financial affairs.  Our efforts are primarily concentrated in helping you achieve and maintain your financial independence. We feel this is by far the single most valuable and worthwhile financial goal most people have.

We are supportive of and interested in your success.

We can help you be a better investor.  We follow a disciplined investment process which helps to reduce losses in down markets and gives you the confidence to invest in up markets.  We seek undervalued assets to invest in to help you earn a reasonable risk-adjusted return on your portfolio. We formally monitor your investments regularly to ensure they meet our criteria (e.g. performance, costs, etc.).

We serve you and are loyal to you.  We are a fiduciary to you.

We are a financial resource to you.  We understand the big picture and can help you with many areas of your financial life, not just investing.

How do you help me invest my money?

We monitor asset classes globally and “tilt” or overweight to assets that exhibit positive momentum and trend traits.  In addition, we search for undervalued, or cheap asset classes.  Ideally, owning assets that are in an uptrend and cheap presents the best possible environment for earning reasonable risk-adjusted returns.

We also help you manage downside exposure by monitoring major asset classes monthly and decreasing exposure to an asset class that is in a downtrend.  Our disciplined approach helps reduces the likelihood and severity of major drawdowns and gives you the confidence to stay invested in rising markets.

We utilize index funds (ETFs) and institutional share class (lowest cost) to implement portfolios.

What do you charge?

Our fees are charged as a percentage of the assets we manage for you.  Fees are charged in arrears.  It is “pay-as-you-go,” meaning you can cancel anytime and are not locked into any lengthy contract of have any exit fees.

If your portfolio is:

$0-$249,999                                 1.50%

$250,000-$499,999                     1.25%

$500,000-$999,999                     1.00%

$1,000,000-$2,999,999                 .75%

$3,000,000+                                    .50%

All costs are transparent, fully disclosed and easy to understand.

Providus accepts no compensation from third parties.  This drastically reduces the sometimes substantial conflicts of interest present in many advisory relationships.

What is the minimum portfolio size?

Generally speaking, $250,000, although in many situations we can accommodate those with smaller portfolios.  Please ask us how.

How long do you plan on being in the business?

Our business is our living and it is what we love to do – helping people achieve and maintain financial independence and have peace of mind over their financial affairs.  We expect to be in the business for at least the next 25 years – long enough to groom the next generation of advisors to carry on the Providus Advisors tradition.

What is the difference between a Registered Investment Advisor and a broker?

A Registered Investment Advisor firm is one that is required to uphold the standards of being a fiduciary.  This is a relationship which requires the advisor to act in the best interest of the client.  An RIA charges a fee for advice rendered to the client.

A brokerage firm is a company that manufactures investment products and sells them to the investing public.  A brokerage firm is held to the suitability standard.  An investment must be suitable.  Brokerage firms are not held to the fiduciary standard. Any advice given to the client is considered “incidental” to the buying or selling of securities.

Providus Advisors is an SEC Regulated, Registered Investment Advisory firm.  We are a fiduciary advisor to our clients.
